My name is Alex Mendoza, and I am a professional bonsai artist based in Miami, Florida. Bonsai Lex Nursery & Studio is a family run business where we ship bonsai nationwide and cater to everyone from beginners to seasoned bonsai artists. Our nursery offers a wide range of material including raw stock, pre bonsai, and fully developed specimen trees. We also provide services such as bonsai sales, tree maintenance, boarding, workshops, intensive classes, and travel to work on private collections or club trees.

My journey with bonsai began about fifteen years ago when my mom gifted me my first tree, a juniper. At the time, I did not know that conifers cannot survive indoors, and despite my efforts, that tree did not make it. What could have been a discouraging experience instead sparked a lifelong passion.

I am a self taught bonsai artist, and within only a few months of practicing, I competed against experienced veterans and placed second in a state styling competition. The following year I exhibited my bonsai tree at a state level competition and was awarded the President’s Award. That moment was a turning point when I realized I had a gift to share with others. Since then, I have been honored to have my trees accepted to exhibit at the largest bonsai event in the country, the US National Bonsai Exhibition. I opened Bonsai Lex Nursery & Studio in 2023 and continue to deepen my knowledge by learning from renowned masters of the craft in both the United States and Japan.

For me, bonsai is more than just a craft. It has been a source of peace and healing through life’s challenges, and it is my mission to share that same sense of calm and inspiration with others through my work, my classes, and the trees I care for. Today, Bonsai Lex is more than a nursery. It is a space where I teach, style, and foster a community that values creativity and artistry.
