Originally developed and styled in Indonesia, this impressive Tamarind bonsai is estimated to be over 25 years old. Having undergone multiple stages of training throughout its life, the tree showcases exceptional character, maturity, and decades of careful cultivation.
Its most striking feature is its deeply fissured, aged bark, which gives the trunk a rugged, ancient appearance. Beautiful trunk movement and natural taper complement a broad, balanced canopy of delicate, finely textured foliage. The tree features an established branch structure, with primary and tertiary branching in place for continued refinement.
Repotted during the previous growing season and subsequently rewired by bonsai artist Alex Mendoza, this specimen is well-positioned for its next stage of development.
Tamarind is a vigorous, fast-growing tropical species known for its flexible young branches and excellent bonsai potential. Mature trees can produce delicate yellow flowers with reddish veining, followed by distinctive brown seed pods containing the sweet and tangy fruit for which the species is famous.
Although Tamarind thrives in tropical climates, it can also be successfully cultivated in other states with proper care. In colder regions, protection from frost and freezing temperatures is essential. A heated greenhouse or suitable indoor environment with adequate grow lighting can provide the conditions needed for healthy growth.
With its Indonesian origins, remarkable aged bark, established branching, and graceful silhouette, this Tamarind is an excellent addition to any tropical bonsai collection.
